This year, the ASCE Student Chapter at the University of New Orleans will be hosting the 2010 Deep South Regional Conference. This conference features the annual concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions, as well as competitions and activities for civil engineering schools across Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. It is estimated that 350 civil engineering students will be participating in this year’s conference, to be held March 26 through 28. We ask that you please consider supporting the student chapter and become a sponsor for the 2010 Deep South Regional Conference. A letter of invitation from the ASCE UNO Student Chapter that outlines sponsorship opportunities for the conference can be found at the bottom of this page. Contact information for the student chapter can found in the letter as well.
In Fall 2008, members from the UNO ASCE Chapter volunteered with two local nonprofits and hosted a fundraising cocktail party to highlight the Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe Team achievements and future projects. The fundraiser was a success and the proceeds allowed up to purchase high grade steel for the steel bridge competition. Each month, we are looking for engineering firms in the New Orleans Area to make presentations to our chapter on current and/or recent work as well as potential job oppurtunities. It is a great chance for our students to meet potential employers and for engineering firms to meet new and potentially recruit new young employees. The Chapter plans to host two PDH events a year, with an ethics oppurtunity for the professional engineering community this spring. The UNO ASCE Chapter is looking forward to hosting the Deep South Regional Conference in Spring 2010 and we are currently looking for sponsors. With continued support from the local engineering community, the UNO Chapter will host a first rate event, while setting new sites on improving their National ranking among student chapters. The ASCE UNO Student Chapter is looking for local engineering firms to continue to support our cause. Anyone interested is sponsoring the chapter or coming out and meeting our members can contact me. Please visit our student chapter website for more information. Thank You Daniel F. Bobeck

The University of New Orleans American Society of Civil Engineers is back with eighty five members strong after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The members set new goals for 2008-09 to increase membership, participate in community service projects and once again place in the top five in the National Student Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe Competition.
