ASCE NEW ORLEANS BRANCH PRESENTS

ENGINEER'S WEEK 2010

FEBRUARY 14 - 20

The National Engineers Week Foundation, a formal coalition of more than 100 professional societies, major corporations and government agencies, is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers among young students and by promoting pre-college literacy in math and science. Engineers Week also raises public understanding and appreciation of engineers' contributions to society.

ASCE will be chairing Engineers Week in 2010, the third time it has done so, and its corporate partner will be ExxonMobil.

Locally, the New Orleans Branch is providing an opportunity for our membership to give back to the community.  We will be joining with LES to landscape at the Children's Playground near the Peristyle at City Park.  Everyone will meet at the Timken Center (Old Casino Building) on Dreyfus at 9 am.  Click here for a map of City Park.

The event will last from 9 AM 12 Noon.  Everyone should wear old clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.  Tools and gloves will be provided.  Family members and friends are welcome.  Snacks and drinks will be provided

RSVP to Meg Adams at megadams@cox.net This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it by February 13, 2010.   Contact Meg if you have any questions.

Additionally, on February 18th, the LES New Orleans Chapter will be hosting LTC Mark D. Jernigan, Deputy District Engineer for the US Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District.  LTC Jernigan will be addressing programs across the board that encompass the New Orleans District.  LTC Jernigan was assigned as deputy commander of the New Orleans District of the US Army Corps of Engineers on June 13, 2008.  LTC Jernigan was previously deputy commander of the Albuquerque District, served in Task Force Hope during the Hurricane Rita and Katrina response and recovery and also served as the Area Engineer at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.

The banquet will be held at the UNO Alumni Center at 6:30 and will cost $40.00 for non-LES members.  The banquet will be catered buffet style as a "Taste of New Orleans".  See here for more information.

To RSVP, please email Pamela at pjwilliams@mahlengr.com and indicate whether you are a LES Member ($35) , Guest ($40) or Student ($15).  RSVP's must be received by noon on 2/15/10.
