Controversial Issues in Sustainability of Concrete

Every day, we are saturated with information and news about the issues of Sustainability.  But is this a real issue or fallacy?  What is happening in the concrete industry in the areas of sustainability as it relates to concrete design and construction?  How does this affect the concrete designer, contractor and supplier? What is Sustainability?  Does it really matter?

This issue is certainly a very hot topic in the US and International community and generates many passionate responses.  This presentation will focus on the issues surrounding this topic and how it will affect the concrete structures being designed and constructed today and in the future.     This presentation will focus on the following issues:

  • What is Sustainability?
  • How did this issue begin?
  • Discussion on the controversy surrounding the issue
  • Industry direction on the subject
  • Case studies and costs
