Reston, Va. (ASCE) - A new podcast series, Insights, was launched today by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Industry Leaders Council. The series, which features noted civil engineering industry leaders discussing insights into the successful practice of civil engineering, provides listeners with access to a wide range of viewpoints, experiences and perspectives.

ASCE is pleased to announce G. Wayne Clough, Ph.D., P.E., Dist.M.ASCE, Secretary of the Smithsonian, is the series’ first guest. Clough has experience in public policy issues at the local, state and national levels. The former Georgia Tech president has published more than 130 papers and reports and has spoken about innovation, higher education, diversity, economic development and technology. The Outstanding Projects and Leaders Award (OPAL) for education is among the nine national awards Clough has received from ASCE. He is also one of only a few to have twice been awarded the Norman medal, civil engineering’s oldest recognition.
Each episode of the series will run 5-10 minutes long, exploring national and global challenges that have had an impact on the engineering profession. Guests will identify challenges facing the nation’s infrastructure and elaborate on what the industry should do to overcome these obstacles. Listeners will get an understanding of guests’ career projects and experiences, and how their careers within civil engineering have had an impact on the world.
